On April 8th, 2014, I had the pleasure to attend Equal Pay Day at the State House. The Massachusetts Legislature has, of course, the Massachusetts Caucus of Women Legislators whose mission is to enhance the economic status and equality of women and to encourage and support women in all levels of government. At the microphone above, speaking are Representative Ruth Balser, House Chair (L), and Senator Gale Candaras, Senate Chair (R). Other attendees included State Treasurer Deb Goldberg, State Auditor Suzanne Bump, State Senator Karen Spilka, and Representative Gloria Fox.
Also speaking at the event was Governor Deval Patrick. I can be seen in the picture to the right, sitting next to Representative Ellen Story.
State Senator Eileen Donoghue spoke on behalf of Senate President Therese Murray, who was unable to make the event.
Former Lieutenant Governor Evelyn Murphy then addressed the crowd.
Victoria Budson, Chair of the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women, and also founding Executive Director of the Women and Public Policy Program (WAPPP) at John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, then spoke, after just returning from D.C.
House Speaker Robert DeLeo also spoke before the event ended.
