The Best and Wost of Gene Roddenberry’s Andromeda: Season 3

In a previous post, I covered Season 4 of Gene Roddenberry’s Andromeda, and here I continue with Season 3.

The Best:

If the Wheel is Fixed, The Unconquerable Man, Delenda Est, The Dark Backward, The Risk All-Point, Day of Judgement Day of Wrath, and Shadows Cast by a Final Salute

Briefly:

  • If the Wheel is Fixed sees Beka and Tyr possessed by an energy/force associated with the aliens, following the events of Tunnel at the End of the Light;
  • The Unconquerable Man features the return of Gaheris Rhade, after betraying Dylan in the pilot episode, where he succeeded in killing Dylan, and took his place.
  • Delenda Est sees the aliens from If the Wheel is Fixed return;
  • The Dark Backward is a fantastic epsiode that seems tied to The Unconquerable Man above, giving some answers to Trance’s mysterious background;
  • The Risk-All Point sees the first new Commonwealth ship launch in over 300 years, the Crimson Sunrise, but a saboteur is on board;
  • Day of Judgement, Day of Wrath reveals that the Balance of Judgment left a coy of his core personality inside the Andromeda in order to reactivate the Restorian movement; and,
  • Shadows Cast by a Final Salute sees Tyr betray both Beka and the Andromeda to the Nietzscheans.

The Worst:

Mad to be Saved, Cui Bono, and Slipfighters the Dogs of War

In brief pieces:

  • Mad to be Saved sees the Andromeda save refugees from torture;
  • Cui Bono sees the reformed High Guard order the Andromeda transport a candidate for election to Second Triumvir in the New Commonwealth, Beka’s Uncle Sid;
  • Slipfighters, the Dogs of War is problematic for me largely because… surprise, “Andromeda has slipfighters all along” which obviously would have been quite useful in previous episodes.

The next in best and worst is Season 2.
